If you just got a Motorola Backflip running Android 1.5 it is now time to have fun but safe at the same time. The Backflip is what I would call a great Android starter phone. I is no performance beast but it will get the job done if you don't overload you phone with unnecessary apps. So I'm going to save you the time and recommend the app that all Backflip users need.
PDAnet Android App

You can either pay monthly to have teathering or you can get it free with this App. You will not find it on the Market places. Rumor has it that AT&T some how is blocking it. You will have to go the link above to download it. The only restriction is that free version of the app will not allow you to get to secure sites (https://). If you need that there is a one time fee of $23.95. Well worth it if you are on the road a lot.

If you have any problem trying to find it on the Market it is likely because your provider has blocked it. The simple way around that is to turn your off phone and take out your sim card. Restart your phone and connect to the internet via WiFi. Now do another search in the Market and you should find and install it just fine.

Advanced Task Cleaner Pro - http://www.android.com/market/

Now there is a free version of this app but trust me when I say just pay for the Pro version. The feature I love the most is the automatic app killer. You can have it call all or selected app any time the phone is started. It also show how much free memory that is available. This app will keep you phone running smoothly. I would say this is the number one app to have on your phone.

Tedds Droid Tool - http://code.google.com/p/teddsdroidtools/

If you are like me, you love and hate the touch screen. It's nice when you don't want to use the keyboard button some time when the instant action like answering a call, a simple physical button can do the trick. This app uses you you camera button to answer call. So you don't have to do that swipe across the screen. Very handy when you only go one free hand. It also has a feature to help prevent your face from hanging up calls. Sadly the feature I want most is a end call feature. That is not available as of nowm but hopefully some time in the future.

Brightness Level - http://www.appbrain.com

This app is great when you need to change your screen brightness quickly. Within on touch of your screen you have the option to change it to 0%, 25%, 50%, 75%, 100%, or you can manually pick a given brightness. This app is all about efficiency and it does it very well

I know you are going to want play around with other apps and when you do you will see that some are just junk. Keep you phone clean and make sure you remove then. This app will do that quickly and easily.

Barcode Scanner - http://www.appbrain.com

Ever been shopping in a store and wonder if you could find a given product cheaper? Well this will help you. You can quickly scan the barcode and it will do a quick search for you to see if you are getting the best deal. Great app to have for you bargain hunters.

Pandora

I love my iPod but this app put that to shame. Pandora is a online customizable radio station. You put in a couple of your favorite bands/artist and magically it starts play all of your favorite songs. I'm not sure how it does it but it's very cool. For you Backflip users this app will suck down you battery within a 2-3 hours so make sure you got a power source near by. Also if you have a limited data plan you may want to to the wifi feature on your phone so you don't use it all up if you are a music lover.

Silent Toggle Widget - http://www.appbrain.com

I find it a little annoying that we don't have a simple switch to silent mode button on the keyboard of the backflip. Well this app is likely the next best thing. You can switch from vibrate, silent, or ring. It's simple and easy to use.

Speed Test - http://speedtest.net

Ever wonder how fast 3G really is? This app will tell you. It will also tell you how fast you Wifi is if you are running on it. I would call this a nerdy app but it can be handy for network guy need a quick and easy way to trouble shoot network related speed issues.

AT&T Mark the Spot - http://www.appbrain.com

I think this really is showing AT&T is trying to work with us. This app allows you to quickly report when you experienced a drop call or limited to no coverage.
Backflip Light Android App Icon

BACKFLIP Light - http://www.appbrain.com

Unlike other apps that just use a white screen to use as a flash light this app actually use the Camera's flash as a true LED flash light. Trust me when I say this works awesome. The app was developed by Motorola so it is free and works flawlessly!
Battery Left Android App Icon

Battery Left - http://www.appbrain.com

This is a nice little widget that lets you know in hours how long your phone's battery is going to last. It is not 100% perfect but it is pretty darn close on how many hours your phone is going to last.
eBuddy Messenger Android App Icon

This app is very nice useful for you forgetful people. You can setup that app so where you send your phone a text with keywords like "GPS" and it will send you back your phones location. Also you can send a text with the keywords "ring" and your phone will start ringing if you know your phone is somewhere near your location.
